The sex comedy Mastiii 4 has hit the theaters, and it’s already grabbing eyeballs thanks to its popular franchise and naughty trailer. Even before its release, there was apprehension that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) would insist on multiple cuts. Bollywood Hungama had exclusively revealed two days ago that the board had asked for six dialogues to be altered.
One of the dialogues in question features Aftab Shivdasani warning, ‘Lekin aisa karne se maut ho jaayegi’. However, the patient’s quip, ‘Marti hai toh mar jaaye saali’, has been replaced with ‘Mujhe jawan ladki ke saath masti karni hai’. The alteration is quite surprising, given that the gag in the second film, released 12 years ago, went unscathed by the censors.
The film, directed by Milap Zaveri, stars Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani, who have been part of the franchise since its inception. This time around, they are joined by Ruhii Singh, Shreya Sharma, Elnaaz Norouzi, Natalia Janoszek, Shaad Randhawa, and Nishant Singh Malkani, along with Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, and Nargis Fakhri.
Despite the controversy surrounding the CBFC cuts, Milap Zaveri has expressed gratitude towards the censor board for their cooperation. He stated that the film has got very few cuts and thanked the board for their understanding.
The censorship board has been under scrutiny in recent times for its arbitrary decisions, but in this case, it seems that they have managed to strike a balance between artistic expression and social responsibility. The decision to cut down the raunchy joke in Mastiii 4 is a welcome move, as it shows that the board is willing to listen to the filmmakers and make adjustments where necessary.
